Playa 506 was born from the dream of two friends from Italy and Venezuela who shared a vision of creating a community-focused space by the sea. In 2014, they arrived in Puerto Viejo and discovered the perfect beachside location just outside the town center. Without a formal business plan—but filled with passion—they purchased the land and began building what is now known as Ecolodge & Hostel Playa 506.

What started as a simple beachfront hostel with 24 dorm beds quickly evolved. The founders lived on-site and wore many hats: they were receptionists, cooks, bartenders, and housekeepers. Their dedication and love for this place laid the foundation for what would become a thriving and sustainable beachfront ecolodge and hostel in Puerto Viejo.

Today, Ecolodge & Hostel Playa 506 offers private rooms, shared dormitories, a farm-to-table beachfront restaurant, a lively beach bar, a yoga space, tour services, and bike and surfboard rentals. We welcome both backpackers and eco-conscious travelers looking to connect with nature, culture, and community.
