About Us - Playa 506 Beachfront Hostel in Costa Rica

It all started with an idea/dream of two friends. Come from different places and backgrounds, including Italy and Venezuela.  They met in Miami, FL back in 2012 and became brothers.

End of 2014 they decided to travel to Costa Rica in search of the perfect land to create their vision. When they arrived in Puerto Viejo, the feeling of the town was about right, and a couple of kilometers outsided they found it. They got it without a business plan, just because the place felt like the home to build a future hostel.

It took them about a year to open, between building, looking for a name and putting a plan together. In the beginning, it was very small, with only 24 beds in dorms, and no privates. They were living there as well and doing pretty much everything from receptionist, cook, bartender, administrator, etc. The first 2 staff members they hired, one for gardening/maintenance and the other for cleaning are still working with the company!

With time and reinvestment, it’s been growing, and now can accommodate 82 people between dorms and privates, a full-service restaurant & bar, tour desk with rentals, events, and more!

When the pandemic hit, some changes came with it. One of the founders relocated to Bali, Indonesia while the other one is still in charge of Playa 506.
